A bunch of first impressions, part two

Hey everyone!

So the previous post revolved around three products and my thoughts on them so far. And now I think it’s time to talk about the other half, as promised. You guessed it! This is part two (“also known as the other half”)!

Let’s get started!

First up is the Starting Treatment Essence (Rose Edition) from Secret Key   ↓

When I first tried this product I wasn’t really sure what to expect, because I’ve never owned a starting treatment essence before! Naturally I was a little unsure about how to use it “correctly”, or at least the best way. So I did some research and found out that it’s completely fine to use products with the words “starting” or “first” in their names, as toners. However, that’s not how I decided to do things! As you already may know, there are different ways when it comes to applying toners and such. For example, there’s the 3-skin method and the 7-skin method. And because I already had the Grean Tea Fresh Toner from Isntree on hand, which I also am testing, I thought it would be a good idea to layer the Starting Treatment Essence on top of it, twice.  Because, why not, right? After all, three good layers are better than one! #3-skin-method

20180602_173215

So, back to my initial thoughts on the Starting Treatment Essence, and how it’s been going since then! At first I found this product slightly impractical because it’s very runny. In other words; applying it to my face was a rather awkward process. Using a cotton pad would definetely be a lot easier, but it would also waste a lot of product, so I decided to stick to using my hands. And once I got the hang of it, I really didn’t see a problem. In fact, I really like the Starting Treatment Essence! It feels sooo luxurious when you spread it on the face and pat it in. It also feels a bit hydrating and cooling, and VERY refreshing! This product leaves my skin feeling soft, supple and just nice all around. Oh, and don’t get me started on the galactomyces in this thing! I can tell that it’s evening out my skin tone and makes it look more healthy and vibrant!

Moving on to the Midnight Blue Youth Activating Drop from Klairs   ↓

I decided to give this product a go when I was looking for a new serum to try and just couldn’t seem to find the perfect one. Don’t get me wrong, I knew this serum wouldn’t cater to all of my needs either, however, a few things about it intrigued me. Firstly, the product itself is a beautiful shade of blue! And who wouldn’t want to try a blue serum, am I right?! And secondly, this serum is geared towards anti-aging. Although I have zero wrinkles and almost no fine lines, I am still turning 25 this year. And that is commonly considered the age when you should start taking some preventive measures. So I thought I’d start off with the Midnight Blue Youth Activating Drop! I may not need anti-aging skin care products yet, but seriously, I’m all about prevention. And discovering – and getting to know the different options out there, is never a bad idea!

20180530_011140

Anyway, let’s rewind back to the first time I tried the Midnight Blue Youth Activating Drop! Just like the Starting Treatment Essence from Secret Key, I was a little (quite!) frustrated to find out how thin and runny this product is. It really wasn’t – and still isn’t easy to apply it to my face without spilling or dripping. When you’re using the dropper applicator to drip this serum on your face, you better move fast! Because this stuff will race down your jaw, chin or wherever it’s going and continue going South unless you catch it! And because of this, and the fact that the product comes in a rather small bottle with a dropper, it reminds me more of an ampoule than a serum. Also, I feel like I have to use more than a drop here and there to cover my face sufficiantly. However, if you set the inconveniance of the application and the ammount of product aside, I do like the product itself. But not as a stand alone serum, only as a layer under something thicker. If you’re looking for a serum with anti-aging properties, and that’s the only concern you have, you might enjoy this product! But for me, a person with other issues aswell, for example dehydration, the Midnight Blue Youth Activating Drop just isn’t enough in itself.

And last but not least we’re talking about the Kale-Lalu-yAHA from Krave   ↓

This is actually my very first exfoliating treatment, so I wasn’t really sure what to expect from it! Of course I’ve exfoliated my face many times before, but that was using either a peeling gel or a more abrasive physical scrub. The Kale-Lalu-yAHA being a chemical exfoliator, is different to the others I mentioned. A chemical exfoliator will often contain ingredients that enables it to multitask. So instead of just breaking down – and removing the dead skin on your face, they can also help reduce wrinkles, brighten, help fade that stubborn hyperpigmentation and so on!

20180530_011001

When I first tried the Kale-Lalu-yAHA the first thing I noticed was the scent, which reminded me of puke. But don’t worry! I don’t mean like full-on-real-talk-shit-puke, but a watered down version, maybe like 5 % puke? ANYWAY, enough about puke, because the scent does go away after a little while, and I only really noticed it the first couple of times I used it.

Now, let’s add a few more details! I usually don’t get a whole lot of breakouts anymore, but at the time of my first meeting with the Kale-Lalu-yAHA, I had quite a few on my forhead, and they had stayed put for about two weeks. When my skin actually breaks out, it’s very seldom in that specific area. I usually get them on my chin and/or around my jaws and cheeks. So this forhead situation was very unusual for me, to say the least!

Okay, it’s time to get to the point! So I just about soaked a cotton pad in Kale-Lalu-yAHA and swiped it across my face a couple of times, and it tingled a bit. It wasn’t painful or anything, but there definetely was a mild tingling sensation! After that, I completed my skin care night time routine and went to bed (lol, like 4 hours later)! When I woke up next morning I noticed that my forhead looked quite a bit better than the night before, and my skin in general felt indeed clean, soft and exfoliated! Just in case this was a coincidence, I kept a close eye on the affected area every day and night for a while. And I was amazed to notice that every time I woke up after a hot and heavy night with the Kale-Lalu-yAHA, my face had cleared up even more than the last time! I would take one look at my forhead and find that the zits had literally shrunk. In other words; so far, so damn good! I am really impressed with this product’s skin clearing abilities and the nice exfoliation it provides! Result!

20180519_181601

There you have it; part two of “A bunch of first impressions”. But fear not! There are a lot more skin care products waiting in line, so you can expect a part three and four, at least. That’s it for tonight! As usual, I hope you enjoyed this post. Hopefully it was a bit interesting and somewhat educational. Have a great day or night wherever you are in the world, and stay tuned for more first impressions etc!

Disclaimer:
“Remember that we all have different skin types and concerns, and that you might react differently to these products compared to what I did. Maybe your experience will be better than mine, maybe it will be worse. It’s all about finding the skin care products best suited to your skin type, concerns and issues. Reading reviews can also be very helpful when you’re deciding which products to buy. And finally, it’s always a good idea to look up a product at CosDna before purchasing. Sometimes a product turns out to be a little (or very) different to what you expected, and there’s little you can do about it after you’ve opened it. But you CAN check which ingredients are in the product, what they are, what they do, and if they’re listed as an irritant or acne trigger. Good luck!”

A bunch of first impressions, part one

Hello everyone!

About two weeks ago I recieved a bunch of skin care products. And as you might already know, every product normally gets a first impression post dedicated to it, followed by a full review post a couple of weeks later. However, today’s post will be slightly different! Perhaps you’ve noticed that the promised first impressions haven’t been posted? Yep, I’m afraid so. I just haven’t gotten around to it yet, but fear not! Today’s post (part 1) will revolve around half of the products. I will shortly touch on what I initially thought as I tried them for the first time. Also, I’ll let you know how the products are doing so far. Keep in mind that I won’t go into too much detail, just my thoughts so far. After all, the full reviews will include everything! Enjoy!

So let’s start off with the Zero Sebum Fresh Gel Cream from Etude House   ↓

I wanted to talk about this product first is because I’ve owned it the longest. Yes, you heard me. I actually recieved it about a month ago, but I chose to include it in this post since I haven’t talked about it on the blog yet. In fact I probably could have written a full review on it, but I’ll wait until it’s empty (which is very soon)!

20180602_173153

The first time I tried the Zero Sebum Fresh Gel Cream I really liked it. It smelled soooo good. I would describe the scent as clean and fresh. I also noticed how little effort it took to apply- and spread it, thanks to the light consistency. Oh, and it acts nice and cooling on the skin. And while all of this is still true, my view on the Zero Sebum Fresh Gel Cream has changed quite a bit. Not only is this moisturizer less suited to my skin, it’s completely wrong for it. It just isn’t moisturizing enough for my dehydrated combo skin. And I really should have realised this before I bought it, and um well, not have bought it at all. Why? Because it’s just another gel cream. And I am yet to find a gel cream that will give me what I need. In other words; there won’t be any more gel based moisturizers for this girl! However, I think someone with oily skin might really enjoy this product.

Moving on to the Green Tea Fresh Toner from Isntree   ↓

I had high hopes for this product. In fact, my expectations were sky high. Not only did the ingredient list impress me with its promising components, but it was SHORT. We’re talking under twenty ingredients, and in my book that is a very good thing! The main ingredient is green tea, which is full of antioxidants and known for its nourishing abilities. So the Green Tea Fresh Toner is a very clean, pure and natural skin care product. It’s also vegan, yay!

20180602_173241

This toner could be great for normal skin types or anyone who’s looking for a nourishing product, or wants to start introducing products with anti-aging benefits into their routine. However, for me personally, it’s not nearly hydrating enough. But keep in mind that my skin is dehydrated AF! Having said that, I really like the idea of a clean, natural and nourishing product, so I’m going to continue using it for its great benefits, just not on it’s own. For me, the Green Tea Fresh Toner will work better as a thinner layer under a more hydrating toner. So if you’re looking for candidates for a 3 – or 7 skin method, this toner could be a good choice! In other words; this product could be great for people who don’t have dry or/and dehydrated skin. So if your skin type is normal or oily, the Green Tea Fresh Toner may be good for you!

And last but not least, the Caffeine Solution 5% EGCG from The Ordinary  ↓

I suppose you could refer to this product as an eye serum? At least that’s what I’ll call it for now. When it comes to my eye area, I’m not really struggling with fine lines, wrinkles, bags or puffiness. However, I decided a while back that I still wanted to treat the skin around my eyes to some extra pampering. After all, prevention is key! Also, I still haven’t found the perfect eye cream, so why not add an eye serum meanwhile, right?

20180602_171208

So far I’m really liking The Ordinary’s Caffeine Solution 5% EGCG! I’m not sure how to explain it best, but It’s like I can feel it working, or at least doing something. And I think that “something” is a good something. Of course it’s still early days, so I’ll have to wait and see, but I can already tell that my eye area is liking it! It just drinks it all up (and I apply quite a bit) and leaves it soft and way less dry! But only time will tell if there’s any long-term effects in this little bottle   🙂

So that’s it for today! I hope you learned something new or at least enjoyed this post a teeny weeny bit. Happy skin care hunting (if that’s what you’re doing)! And if you’re just chilling, I hope you have a great day. PS: If you have any tips or tricks you’d like to share with me, feel free to do so! Oh, and stay tuned for part two.

July empties!

Hey everyone!

In today’s post I’ll be taking you through the skin care products that are either empty as we speak, or running very low.

So let’s get to it!

The Multi Function Formula Snail Repair Intensive Ampoule from Mizon   ↓
Okay, I’ll be honest. This bad boy has been close to empty for some time now, but I took a break from it a while back and recently started using it again. Well, the little that was left. ANYWAY. It’s completely empty now, and I’m considering repurchasing it! If you’re interested in Mocka’s review on the product, you’ll find it here!

The Moistfull Collagen Water Jelly Cream from Etude House   ↓
This is a great little cream if you want something cheap that will last a long time, smells lovely, and last but not least; takes it’s job of moisturizing quite seriously. You can read my review on it here! I’ve finished about 7 tubs of this gel cream, and although it’s not FANTASTIC, it’s great for the price! Definetely a repurchase for me.

The Multi Function Formula Snail Repair Eye Cream from Mizon   ↓

I’ve had two or three tubes of this little gel, and now that I’ve emptied the most recent one, I know that I will repurchase! I’m not sure how effective it is, but I love it’s thin consistency and gentle cooling effect. And I just think that it’s a great little eye cream to have on hand. Plus it’s mega cheap!

The Jeju Lava Seawater Boosting Ampoule from Innisfree   ↓
Now, this little sh*t didn’t exactly last long before the “Repurchase or not?-question” became real! The thing is, when it arrived, about one third of the product just wasn’t there, and then, about a week ago, me being the idiot that I am, managed to knock it over TWICE in about 7,5 seconds. So, yeah. But I do like the product and I might repurchase it. You’ll find my first impression here. Lol, you know you’ve messed up when you spill the remaining half of a product down the sink before you get your review out.

20170525_194137

The Jeju Horse Oil Soothing Gel Cream from The Saem   ↓
Oh my Gosh. I just love this one. I’m usually not a fan of body lotions but this has seriously impressed my balls off. It absorbs into the skin like a dream, leaving it soothed, moisturized and smelling delish! After application the skin has a natural glow and doesn’t feel sticky or oily when touched. Score! I don’t use it every day or night, but whenever I’m going out and my arms/legs are showing, I put some on. Bye bye dry patches, hello amaze! If you’re interested in the first impression, you’ll find it here.

So that’s it for my July empties! Hope you enjoyed 🙂

Review: Klairs Supple Facial Preparation Facial Toner

Hello everyone!

The time has now come for me to share my final thoughts on the Supple Preparation Facial Toner from Klairs. I can honestly say that this toner has been thoroughly tested for more than three weeks, which is usually enough time for me to find out if a skin care product is doing what it claims, or pure kicking my ass!

So let’s get to it   ↓

20170523_224404

So what do I like about the Klairs Supple Preparation Facial Toner?

As I mentioned earlier; I’ve now been using the Supple Preparation Facial Toner from Klairs for over three weeks, and it’s been a true pleasure since day one. I can hand on heart say that I love this toner. It hasn’t caused any breakouts and I feel that it’s doing a great job of it’s main tasks, which are adjusting the skin’s pH level and hydrating – and moisturizing the skin. It feels amazing as soon as it’s applied, as it provides a cooling and soothing effect, and you’re left with a clean and healthy looking face with a satin finish (which is exactly what you want you want when you’re moving on to the next skin care product in your routine!)
This product does have a very clean and rather medicinal scent, but it’s very mild. In other words; if you’re very sensitive to scents, I doubt that you’ll have a problem with this toner, as the scent isn’t overbaring at all. However, I for one, wouldn’t mind a slightly more yummy scent, but I’m not going to complain since the scent of this product is pleasant enough and I do like it. (It’s just not going to blow the head off Vicky’s Scent Scale, but that’s okay, we can accept that!)

20170523_223435

And what are the cons?
I have to say that the cons aren’t that many, but there are some.
For instance the consistency could have been a teeny bit better. Don’t get me wrong; I love that it’s thick for a toner and therefore very nourishing, hydrating and moisturizing but it’s not quite as easy to spread out compared to other toners that I’ve tried. It’s not difficult or anything, I just notice a slight difference. Keep in mind that I’ve only tried applying the product with a cotton pad, so for all I know it might be easier applying it with my finger tips. I just haven’t tried this method when it comes to this product yet, as I prefer using cotton pads for this step in my routine.
Also there is the container. Although it’s a good container, it looks nice, it’s safe and secure etc, the dispenser isn’t the best. When you take the top off you’ll discover that the dispenser is flat and that the only way to get the product out is to hold the bottle upside down and shake (not like ferociously shaking it but you get my point). So when you’re done with that and return the bottle into an upright position, you’re sometimes left with a bit of a mess, which I’ll be honest in the beginning was getting on my tits a bit, but now I’m pretty much used to it and it’s not that bad. Just a thought, though.

Conclusion?
When it comes to Korean Toners I have tried/used the Skinfood Premium Tomato Whitening Toner, the COSRX AHA/BHA Clarifying Treatment Toner and the Etude House Wonder Pore Freshner, before now trying – and using the Klairs Supple Preparation Facial Toner. I can’t really remember my time with the Skinfood toner or the COSRX toner. All I know it that they didn’t impress me and were ultimatly replaced by the Wonder Pore freshner from Etude house, which is the toner that I’ve used the longest. And because of that I decided that if I was going to compare the Klairs toner with another one, it would have to be the Wonder Pore Freshner.

And I must say that in this case Klairs really gave Etude House a run for their money! I know that the Wonder Pore Freshner is a Holy Grail product for many, but for me it was just “allright”. It didn’t break me out but it didn’t impress me either. Needless to say, now that I’ve experienced the full force of the Supple Preparation Facial Toner from Klairs, I won’t be going back to the Wonder Pore Freshner anytime soon! This will definetely be a repurchase.

And remember; I always recommend taking a closer look at any new product before purchasing it, just in case you’re allergic or sensitve to one or more of the ingredients. Personally I always check before buying a new product, because I know my skin is of the extra vulnerable type as I do have dehydrated combination skin with acne prone areas. You can find the ingredients, what they are and what they do at CosDna.

So that’s it for my review on the Supple Preparation Facial Toner from Klairs! Hope you enjoyed it and found it helpful. Please let me know what your experience with this product is, if you’ve tried it!

The latest arrivals!

Hello everyone!

Today I’m sharing with you the latest products to arrive in my post box! This time I’ve got one skin care product and four make up products. I’m just going to skim through them one after the other instead of giving you loads of easily forgotten stories about why I bought each one of them. If you’re still interested in that you can read about it here, or wait for the first impressions, which will also be loaded with dozens of juicy details!

20170603_223903
Look at all these beauties!

So let’s get to it   ↓

The Sulwhasoo Gentle Cleansing Foam EX
I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I am to try this cleanser. I’ve known about it for soo long without buying it, so now that it’s actually in my hands, it’s definetely show time! In fact, I’m going to start using this tonight, so be on the lookout for a first impression very soon!   ↓

20170603_223958

The Etude House Proof 10 Eye Primer
Tomorrow will be a “make up day” so I’ll be using this tomorrow before going to a dinner party. Let’s hope it makes my eyeshadow pop, not drop! This needs to add lasting power to my eyeshadow, keep it streak free and prevent it from turning into a blotchy mess to impress me. But will it do so? Fingers crossed!   ↓

20170603_224105

The Aprilskin No Smudge Eye Doll Brush Pen Liner in black
Another product that will be tested tomorrow! There’s really not a lot more I can tell you about it until then. Maybe apart from the fact that it’s supposed to be smudge proof, which is always a good thing!   ↓

20170603_224124

The Etude House Double Lasting Foundation in the colour Fair

Yet another make up product from Etude House that I will be wearing tomorrow. I might not know if it will break me out or not after just one day of wearing, but I’m very difficult to please when it comes to foundations, so I’ll know if I like it’s performance or not by the end of the night!   ↓

20170603_224019

The Holika Holika Heartful Chiffon Cream Lipstick in the colour Dark Cherry Choux
I know that I love the colour and I know that I love the performace, cause I already have one of these. ‘Nuff said!   ↓

20170603_224142
So far I love these products, BUT they haven’t past the test yet! Let’s see if my love for them will continue after a few weeks   🙂

The long road to a makeup free face

Hello darlings!

Yes, we’re talking makeup, or rather, the strong desire to not depend on makeup!

I’ve been using heavy foundations and such for many years, basically anything that could cover my awful skin would be an instant friend of mine. Well.. let’s just say that it took a long time to come to terms with the fact that the more shit I put on my face, the more angry my skin would get.
It wasn’t until recently that I accepted the hard cakey truth that maybe it’s time to let the skin killing foundations go, and boy is it hard!
So far I’ve hit the five consecutive days of foundation free greatness mark, but I can’t stop feeling uncomfortable going to work naked faced, I know, silly right? So until I’m comfortable in my own natural glorious skin, literally, I’m searching for alternatives, which means I’ve already got stuff on the way, so much for that no buy rule.

So face wise I decided to try out two BB creams, I’ve browsed the internet to figure out what you all actually like, and the search left me with 20+ alternatives, so I went for the two most mentioned I could find, just not to go insane over all the alternatives, smart right?

missha-m-perfect-cover-bb-cream-29-kbeauty-skincare-essence-msms1052-29
First up; Missha M Perfect Cover BB Cream
Which, probably everyone who’s ever been searching for Korean cosmetics has heard of, or maybe that’s just something I believe. Anyway, most mentioned on all the sites I visited, so definitely worth a try! 3064398

Next I purchased the Holika Holika Petit BB cream Clearing, this also comes in other versions, like shimmer, bouncing and aqua.
I landed on this because let’s face it, my skin needs a little problem care, and this seemed like a suitable fit for me, and of course, if I end up liking this I will probably try the other versions from Holika Holika.
So yeah, hopefully these will be good tools on my way to happier skin!

When I first had broken the no buy rule I thought what they heck, let’s get some more goodies!
So I also ended up purchasing an eyeliner and two ampoules that I’m really looking forward to try! I was basically having a mini panic attack when it hit me that my current ampoule is very close to empty, and I don’t have another one or a replacement for it, so of course I had to get two brand new ones I’ve never tried before!
s-l400

The eyeliner I ended up purchasing is the Etude House Styling Eye Liner, it was cheap, it’s black, and I use eyeliner everyday, so worst case it ends up being my backup liner.

Ampoule wise these two were the ones that ended up in my basket;

And if you ask me why, I have no good response.
I’ve wanted to try an propolis based ampoule, and the Scinic one didn’t have any terrible reviews or a horribad ingredient list, and I like the looks of it, so I thought it was a good test product to see if I’m indeed a fan of the propolis hype.
The Bergamo on the other hand.. where do I begin?
I fell for the pink, and bought it solely based on the looks of it, shallow right? Sorry, not sorry.
I didn’t even check the ingredient list before buying, that’s how big of a sucker I am for pink and shiny. Looking back now I should’ve just stuck to the good old Mizon Snail Ampoule. But hey! I’ll test the pink cuteness and get back to you when that time comes.

( I did also order a backup ampoule, the same as the one I have, just in case all else fails)

So that escalated quickly, this was supposed to be an all makeup post, but when I blog, I blog all the way! Or something like that.

Until next time!
-Mocka

Have you tried any of these products?
Let me know!

Today’s mini haul!

Hey guys!

If you’ve followed this blogg for a while you might know that I’ve been interested in trying more Korean makeup as I’m in love with their skin care. But in order to do just that, I’d have to get my hands on some more, as I don’t really have that much. So today I went mini crazy and did a mini haul. I purchased one skin care product and five make up products during today’s haul!

Let’s start off with the skin care product   ↓

643x643__gentle_cleansing_foam_ex
The Gentle Cleansing Foam EX from Sulwhasoo
Now, I’ve been meaning to try this for quite some time now, but I just haven’t gotten around to it. I’ve been very happy with the last cleanser I bought, which is the ACNE Cleansing Foam from Tosowoong, but as that one is running pretty low I decided to try the Sulwhasoo because I’ve been wanting to for many months. Fingers crossed!

And now the make up products   ↓

aprilskin_019_light-500x500
April Skin No Smudge Eye Doll Brush Pen Liner

I’m in need of a new liquid eye liner pen, and I’ve heard amazing things about this one. So the choice was easy peasy lemon squeezy!

holika
Holika Holika Heartful Chiffon Cream Lipstick in the colour Dark Cherry Choux
I already own one of these (the Almond Choux) and I love it! A review on the product will be out in the near future.

etude
Etude House Double Lasting Foundation in the colour Fair
I’m so sick of the matte foundation I’m currently using so I want to try another. I’ve heard that this baby right here is very good. Ka-ching!

nat
Nature Republic Shine Blossom Blusher in the colour Apricot

Again, I’ve only heard great things about this product. Let’s hope they’re true. I only have a cream stick blusher at the moment, and although I like it, I’d like to try another colour aswell as another type.

Etude House Proof 10 Eye Primer
The same applies to this product; heard good things about it and although I have an eye primer, I’d like to try a different one. Oh, and the price? Cheeeeaap!

So that’s it for my mini haul today! First impressions and reviews will follow after recieving the products, as usual. And if you’re interested in first impressions on the last batch of products I got in the post the other day, stay tuned, cause I’ll be starting off with the Supple Preparation Facial Toner from Klairs!
