The Big BB Cream Battle; Part 3!

Hello Darlings!

Yes, I know, I’ve been off the radar for a while, with summer and all I’ve been offline for some time, and I will be going away on summer holiday this weekend, so this might be my last post for a little while, I will try to IG a little bit, fingers crossed that there’s wifi!

Anyway, you’ve probably been waiting for this mofo, so let’s get this battle over with!

img_9021

First off, there are reviews out on these bad boys already, here’s the Missha one, and here’s the Holika Holika one, be sure to read them first, before getting the scoop on which one you shouldn’t be without!

I started this journey being a realistic optimist, thinking that at least one of these would make my skin days better than ever before!
After having tested them both together and separately I’m sad to inform that this post should’ve been a rant of the week, BUT, that’s my experience with them, you might find them amazeballs!

Let’s take a closer look at them separately;

My first thought when trying this was that it was superduper grey, and that I would end up with a sick grey-cast on my face after applying it. Well, I was pleasantly surprised when I applied it, and the way it provided cover to the spots and red areas on my face was really nice!
The finish is semi matte with a little too much glow for my taste, so I applied this, then a thin layer of setting powder, just to get that matte gorgeousness going!
The first week I used it I was really over the moon, thinking that it was indeed the beginning of an amazing bb cream relationship!
Well.. My skin has never looked worse. I’m literally back to where I began, and it sucks, you guys. Friggin’ blows.
My chin suddenly got all of these gnarly red zits that were huge and irritated! My temples are still covered in small bumps, and my forehead is CC city. Goddamnit.
So I saw it fit to just shelf this for a little while, get my skin calm again before I continued the battle of ze grand BB creams.

Enter the Holika Holika one!

This one I did test before I tested the Missha in depth, they both got half a face each for a week before I tested them separately.
But I did wait a little while after the Missha one before I tested this one.
It applies easily, a bit thicker than the Missha BB cream, but both spreads evenly and easy.
This too is too glowy for my taste, so again, I covered this with a little finishing powder, which gives me the matte look I love.
I had high hopes for this one, it’s supposed to contain tea tree, which is a God in the fight against acne prone skin, but it didn’t really help that much in my fight.
The first couple of days I thought that this was helping my skin, rather than f’ing it up, but maybe I was just a happy go lucky fool?
Because my skin didn’t really like this BB cream either.
It’s not as bad as the other culprit, but I’m slowly concluding that my skin is not made to be a BB cream covered canvas.
Now, at this point I reached a crossroad, I could clear up my skin by not using any of the products, which meant going out into the world feeling like shit and looking like shit, which to be honest, no one wants. OR, I could cover up the shit my face was covered in, with the bad guy that gave me a shitty looking face.
Guess what I did?
I made it worse!
But, all in the name of science you guys!
I split my face in two equal parts, not literally tho. And used the Holika Holika on one side and the Missha on the other, just to test if one was worse than the other.
Want to know the results?
HAH, I hate them both.
Again, my face and BB creams don’t go together. So up until yesterday I continued to mix them for maximum coverage until I today decided that I should just ride this shit out, and stop all BB cream usage until my skin gets better, wise choice right?

BUT, keep in mind that this is my experience with the products, I’m sure that other mortals have better experiences with these seemingly amazing products!
So how did they do in their battle?

I’ve rated them both earlier;
The bold part in parentheses are the old scores, and I’ve also added the Price VS Performance part. Which means, how well does the product perform considering the price.

Holika Holika Clearing Petit BB Cream:
Packaging: 7/10
Scent: 7/10
Texture: 8/10
Performance: 6/10  (7/10)
Coverage: 6/10      (7/10)
Price VS Performance: 7/10

Total Score: 7/10

This product gets:

💄💄💄💄💄💄💄 7/10

Missha M Perfect Cover BB Cream
Rating:
Packaging: 6/10
Scent: 5/10
Texture: 6/10
Performance: 6/10  (7/10)
Coverage: 5/10    (7/10)
Price VS Performance: 4/10
Total Score: 5/10  (6/10)

This product gets:

💄💄💄💄💄💄 5/10

So based on my experience with these two products and how well they performed without taking into consideration that my skin couldn’t handle either of them, I would have to say that for me, the Holika Holika one is the winner. Not only is it dirt cheap and provides good coverage, but it was also the lesser of two evils for me, and having the sensitive skin that I have, that fact alone scores major creamy points in my book.

img_9023

So there you have it, typos and all!
Holika Holika earns a gold star from me!

Remember, this is my experience with these products, you might not have the same, and the products can work wonders for some, and be bad for some. Your Mileage May Vary, and we’re all different, you should always check the ingredient list and read about the products you’re considering before purchasing it, but hey, no pressure!

Have you tried any of these products?
Let me know!

The Big BB Cream Battle Part 2!

Hello darlings!

Yes, you read the headline right, today I’m continuing the adventure of the BB cream battle!
If you haven’t read part 1 yet, go check it out right now!
Last time I reviewed the Missha BB cream, and today I’m taking on the Holika Holika one!

Let’s just get down to business, shall we?

Name: Holika Holika Petit BB Clearing
Product: BB cream

Packaging:
This actually came on it’s own, just wrapped in plastic, fair enough, considering it only sets you back 5 bucks.
It’s an eye pleasing blue color, or so I think, each to it’s own I guess.
Basically it’s a nice little tube of skin goodness.

Texture & Scent:
Again, I said this in my previous post, how does one define the texture of a BB cream?
Anyone who has ever tried a BB cream, or even a foundation for that matter, knows the consistency; not runny, but not as solid as a heavy white cream.
It doesn’t really have a distinguished scent.
There I was, biting my nails, pulling my hair, waiting for this monster of sniffiness to arrive, the god of tea tree ugghness, with the tremble of a thousand leaves I sat patiently and afraid, but when it finally arrived, I was pleasantly surprised! And that almost never happens. Forever a grumpy cat.
Application:
Application, really?

I use a sponge for this one as well as any other foundation/BB cream I put on.
At first I really thought this was going to be way dark, but hurray, it’s not!
It blends well with my skin and is easy to apply, it just glides smoothly across my face.
Now, when I’ve applied it, it sinks in pretty fast, but it is indeed a little darker than my skin tone, this is something I’ve always had a problem with when it comes to every single foundation/ BB cream, I’m just too fair to get a match. Unless I sign up for match.com, or maybe tinder just to stay hip. Lawd, this humor.
Anyway, to get this to fit my skin tone I apply setting powder on top, just dab it on, and it lightens the BB cream slightly so that I don’t get that awful “I only sunbathed my face this summer and covered the rest of my body” – look.

So that’s the good old info, what are my thoughts on it so far, you ask?
So far I’m enjoying this BB cream a lot, it’s one of the first that doesn’t make me break out in annoying little spots, that never really wants to go away.
It doesn’t feel heavy or greasy, and sinks in pretty nicely, if you ask me.
Only thing I don’t like about it is that I can’t get it in another shade, that it’s standardized, I mean come on, not everybody has the same skin tone, and I really want a product that gives me that good to go look without using any extra magical little things.
But I do love it at the same time, so I will continue using it!

Rating:

So that’s it on this little gem so far, next up on my agenda is the last part of the battle, the comparison of the two, and of course the winner, and why it won!
Stay tuned!

The big BB cream battle part 1!

Hello darlings!

I’ve had the pleasure of testing, sniffing, and painting with BB cream, in my face that is, and seeings as I’ve had a good experience with both of them, I thought I’d put them both to the test, against each other.
Firstly, they’ll both get a quick review each, then I’ll compare and put them against each other in a final post!

The two BB creams in question are:
img_9021.jpg

Missha M Perfect Cover BB cream (No.21) & Holika Holika Petit Clearing BB Cream

Today, we’re taking on the Missha one!

img_9027.jpg
Name: Missha M Perfect Cover B.B Cream
Product: BB cream
Good For: anti aging, brightening effects, disguise blemishes
Description:The Perfect Cover BB Cream from Missha offers medium coverage that disguises blemishes, evens out skin tone, protects from sun damage (SPF 42 PA+++), and even provides anti-aging and brightening effects. Perfect for those on the go — this multi-purpose BB cream makes your life (and your makeup bag) a whole lot simpler.
Price: 13$ (ebay)
Cosdna

Packaging:
This little gem originally came in a sleek little box with silver and red on it, but of course, I managed to toss it out before even considering taking a picture of it, sorry not sorry, a swift google search will show you the box, if that’s what gets your juices flowing, if not, just trust me when I say that it was neat.
img_9027.jpg
The tube itself is a red little wonder with a silver twist cap, you screw it off, points for the hygienic solution, but you never really know how much you’re going to squeeze out, but then again, we all like a little surprise here and there!

Texture, Scent & Application:
How does one really describe the texture of a BB cream?
They’re all pretty similar but yet unique, this one actually packs a little heaviness, which means that it’s not as runny as the other one, it isn’t hard like concrete either, but I do enjoy it’s consistency, it makes for an easy spreadable product.
Scent wise I don’t get much, it smells like makeup basically. And I also use the Skinfood Peach Sake Powder to set it with, so at the end of the day my whole face smells like fruit. I love it.
This BB cream is for me a little sticky, maybe I’m not patient enough to let it really sink in, but hello, have you met me? I was not dealt the hand of an patient soul, I went all in on sarcasm and napping. Yes, I am the coffee loving nap queen.
Anyway, I don’t mind the stickiness, considering that I always use some peachy fairy dust on top.

Looord, have you ever seen such an awkward hand?
This has to be the BB cream that matches my skin tone the best, when I first tried it I was like, omg, that grey shade, am I going to end up with a granny face?
But it’s amazing how well this thing blends with your skin, this matches me perfectly.
Application wise I smear this one with my little sponge after having applied sunscreen, wait for a minute while I sip my coffee, then set it with the powder mentioned earlier, I then go on with the rest of my face paint, and BAM, done!

Thoughts so far:

I’ve actually gotten to test this out in different situations, I’ve used this mostly for workdays, but also at a party, and a social gathering. Let’s just say that when going to work I don’t expect much from a BB cream, but social gatherings and parties? Gurl, you betta work. Nothing says party pooper like a flaking face in the middle of the dance floor.
But this one does the trick, I’ve tested it once without setting powder, but that really isn’t for me, not that it doesn’t hold, but I feel like the oily t-zone is minutes from erupting like the oily volcano it is.
But this one really gets the whole coverage job done, so far it get’s a lot of love from me, at least.
I really like the fact that it hasn’t made me break out majorly, I’ve had some cheek breakouts, but I get that from almost everything I try, so I’ve stopped being to picky about it, the breakout usually disappears when the party’s over, and we’re back to normal!
So far I like this, but I can’t give HG status to the first BB cream I’ve tried. It works best for me on the weekdays, and as much as it is good, I am searching for a better allround BB cream, or maybe I’ve found it? Stay tuned!

Ratings so far:

The long road to a makeup free face

Hello darlings!

Yes, we’re talking makeup, or rather, the strong desire to not depend on makeup!

I’ve been using heavy foundations and such for many years, basically anything that could cover my awful skin would be an instant friend of mine. Well.. let’s just say that it took a long time to come to terms with the fact that the more shit I put on my face, the more angry my skin would get.
It wasn’t until recently that I accepted the hard cakey truth that maybe it’s time to let the skin killing foundations go, and boy is it hard!
So far I’ve hit the five consecutive days of foundation free greatness mark, but I can’t stop feeling uncomfortable going to work naked faced, I know, silly right? So until I’m comfortable in my own natural glorious skin, literally, I’m searching for alternatives, which means I’ve already got stuff on the way, so much for that no buy rule.

So face wise I decided to try out two BB creams, I’ve browsed the internet to figure out what you all actually like, and the search left me with 20+ alternatives, so I went for the two most mentioned I could find, just not to go insane over all the alternatives, smart right?

missha-m-perfect-cover-bb-cream-29-kbeauty-skincare-essence-msms1052-29
First up; Missha M Perfect Cover BB Cream
Which, probably everyone who’s ever been searching for Korean cosmetics has heard of, or maybe that’s just something I believe. Anyway, most mentioned on all the sites I visited, so definitely worth a try! 3064398

Next I purchased the Holika Holika Petit BB cream Clearing, this also comes in other versions, like shimmer, bouncing and aqua.
I landed on this because let’s face it, my skin needs a little problem care, and this seemed like a suitable fit for me, and of course, if I end up liking this I will probably try the other versions from Holika Holika.
So yeah, hopefully these will be good tools on my way to happier skin!

When I first had broken the no buy rule I thought what they heck, let’s get some more goodies!
So I also ended up purchasing an eyeliner and two ampoules that I’m really looking forward to try! I was basically having a mini panic attack when it hit me that my current ampoule is very close to empty, and I don’t have another one or a replacement for it, so of course I had to get two brand new ones I’ve never tried before!
s-l400

The eyeliner I ended up purchasing is the Etude House Styling Eye Liner, it was cheap, it’s black, and I use eyeliner everyday, so worst case it ends up being my backup liner.

Ampoule wise these two were the ones that ended up in my basket;

And if you ask me why, I have no good response.
I’ve wanted to try an propolis based ampoule, and the Scinic one didn’t have any terrible reviews or a horribad ingredient list, and I like the looks of it, so I thought it was a good test product to see if I’m indeed a fan of the propolis hype.
The Bergamo on the other hand.. where do I begin?
I fell for the pink, and bought it solely based on the looks of it, shallow right? Sorry, not sorry.
I didn’t even check the ingredient list before buying, that’s how big of a sucker I am for pink and shiny. Looking back now I should’ve just stuck to the good old Mizon Snail Ampoule. But hey! I’ll test the pink cuteness and get back to you when that time comes.

( I did also order a backup ampoule, the same as the one I have, just in case all else fails)

So that escalated quickly, this was supposed to be an all makeup post, but when I blog, I blog all the way! Or something like that.

Until next time!

Today’s mini haul!

Hey guys!

If you’ve followed this blogg for a while you might know that I’ve been interested in trying more Korean makeup as I’m in love with their skin care. But in order to do just that, I’d have to get my hands on some more, as I don’t really have that much. So today I went mini crazy and did a mini haul. I purchased one skin care product and five make up products during today’s haul!

Let’s start off with the skin care product   ↓

643x643__gentle_cleansing_foam_ex
The Gentle Cleansing Foam EX from Sulwhasoo
Now, I’ve been meaning to try this for quite some time now, but I just haven’t gotten around to it. I’ve been very happy with the last cleanser I bought, which is the ACNE Cleansing Foam from Tosowoong, but as that one is running pretty low I decided to try the Sulwhasoo because I’ve been wanting to for many months. Fingers crossed!

And now the make up products   ↓

aprilskin_019_light-500x500
April Skin No Smudge Eye Doll Brush Pen Liner

I’m in need of a new liquid eye liner pen, and I’ve heard amazing things about this one. So the choice was easy peasy lemon squeezy!

holika
Holika Holika Heartful Chiffon Cream Lipstick in the colour Dark Cherry Choux
I already own one of these (the Almond Choux) and I love it! A review on the product will be out in the near future.

etude
Etude House Double Lasting Foundation in the colour Fair
I’m so sick of the matte foundation I’m currently using so I want to try another. I’ve heard that this baby right here is very good. Ka-ching!

nat
Nature Republic Shine Blossom Blusher in the colour Apricot

Again, I’ve only heard great things about this product. Let’s hope they’re true. I only have a cream stick blusher at the moment, and although I like it, I’d like to try another colour aswell as another type.

primer
Etude House Proof 10 Eye Primer
The same applies to this product; heard good things about it and although I have an eye primer, I’d like to try a different one. Oh, and the price? Cheeeeaap!

So that’s it for my mini haul today! First impressions and reviews will follow after recieving the products, as usual. And if you’re interested in first impressions on the last batch of products I got in the post the other day, stay tuned, cause I’ll be starting off with the Supple Preparation Facial Toner from Klairs!

Vicky

Today’s arrivals!

Hey guys!

So today I found a load of products waiting for me in my letter box! Oh, happy day! I ordered all of them around the same date so it’s not a suprise that so many came at the same time, but it still feels amazing to get my hands on them all, MUHAHAHA! (And that sounds a bit creepy). *Cough* ANYWAY, everyday there’s a package (or nine) in my letter box is a good day! Like I’ve said before; it feels like Christmas every single time! Now, I bet you’re all jumping out of your chairs, eager to find out what I recieved today, so let’s start off with the make up   ↓

20170518_200933

Here we have the Holika Holika Heartful Chiffon Cream Lipstick in the colour Almond Choux, the Peripera Rouge Pang Lipstick #PP08, the Play 101 Stick (Contour Duo) and the Etude House Dr. Mascara Fixer Super Longlash eyelash primer.

Can’t wait to try them all tomorrow. Well, at least three out of four, as I don’t have two sets of lips (well…)!

ANYWAY, moving on to the skin care products   ↓

20170518_200829

And here we have the Banila Co. Clean It Zero Purity Cleansing Balm, the Innisfree Jeju Lava Seawater Boosting Ampoule and the Klairs Supple Preparation Facial Toner.

I’ve already tried the toner and the ampoule tonight, and tomorrow I’ll also try the cleansing balm! So excited! Fingers crossed.

Here all of the products that arrived today are pictured together just like a little k-beauty family   ↓

20170518_200902
Ah, the beauty.

And of course the empty boxes, lols   ↓

20170518_200951
Look at all those empty shells!

Stay tuned for more products as they keep coming in! In other words; I’m still waiting for a few other newbies, and if I wasn’t, I would order MORE. Heh. Anyway, I’m very excited to recieve them, especially one of them. Can you guess which product I’m talking about?

And I will of course come back with first impressions – and later on full reviews on all of the products mentioned in this post, as I do with every product I purchase!

Vicky ❤
